REUSE IN THE GARDEN
As an individual you can also help promote Reuse in the garden by:
- Empty, cut down mineral water bottles can be used as mini green houses for young plants
- Old carpet or cardboard can be used to insulate compost heaps or placed on the grounds to clear areas of weeds
- Old wood and pallets can be used to build compost bins
- Cracked and broken crockery can be smashed and used for drainage crocks in plant pots
- Use yoghurt pots for planting seedlings
- Avoid throw-away barbecues, make your own using reclaimed bricks
- Buy home composters from the Council subsidised scheme as these are made of recycled plastic
COMPOST
Make your own compost using your garden waste and left over food waste. As well as tackling the problem of garden waste you are also caring for your garden by adding important nutrients and improving your soil's structure, texture, aeration and water retention.
Compost Bins are available to West Sussex residents at a reduced rate. Prices start from just £10.00 (a saving of up to 66% off the normal price). These bins are made of recycled plastic so help close the recycling loop.
