REUSE AND BABIES
As an individual you can also help promote Reuse when caring for your baby by:
Fact: A child will use on average 5,000 nappies until it is potty trained. Each nappy sent to a landfill site can take up to 50 years to decompose.
Today there are many different types and shapes of modern cotton nappy tailored to suit the individual needs of your baby. Choose form terry squares to shaped, fitted cotton nappies with outer wraps, washing at home or using a nappy laundry service.
If your baby is born in a hospital in West Sussex, you will be able to try cotton nappies during your stay as the maternity units all use cotton nappies.
Depending on which brand of cloth nappy you choose, huge savings can be made especially if you use the nappies again on a second child.
West Sussex County Council will make a payment of up to £30 for each child in real nappies if you register with a laundering service or wash the nappies at home. For an application form please contact WSCC on 01243 777595 or by email to wastes.management@westsussex.gov.uk.
